Hi! My name is Melanie Elizabeth Bates. I am a Washington, DC-based attorney and owner of Melanie Bates Consulting, LLC. I am also a violinist dedicated to amplifying music written by Black composers.
Music transforms our overall well-being. I perform for senior living communities, assisted living facilities, child development centers, places of worship, and other nonprofit organizations. I strive to make a meaningful connection with every person in the audience. I cherish the ability to share my passion. Thank you for visiting my website.

I released an Extended Play (EP) on Sunday, April 20, 2025, in honor of my 40th birthday. The album is titled, "Melanie The Violinist," and the music was composed by Duroje Gwamna.
This project was inspired by a poem I wrote and previously performed about my unwavering love for the violin. A portion reads: The violin has been a part of me since I was nine. When I play the violin, I lose track of time. When I stroke the bow across its shiny strings, the sound that emanates rings. The violin is truly one of my favorite things. The violin feels so cozy under my chin, on my shoulder, and in my hands. The music I play on the violin can take me to foreign lands. "Melanie The Violinist," is available on all streaming platforms.
